In 1976, at just 21 years old, Réal Boissonneault acquired Transport Fontaine in Saint-Gervais, with the support of his father. A year later, he added Autobus Lac Frontière to his young entrepreneurial career. It was during this adventure that he met Estelle, his wife and life partner. Together, they built the foundations of a family business, where perseverance and ambition have always been at the heart of its success.
In 1986, Réal founded Autocar Excellence with a clear goal: to raise industry standards. While some considered it bold to choose such an ambitious name, Réal saw it more as a permanent commitment to providing truly “excellent” service. That same year, the Tournées Club Sélect agency was created, organizing school trips, senior tours, and themed visits, thereby expanding the group’s tourism offerings.
In 1991, Réal and his partner Ghislain Vadnais acquired Érablière le Chemin du Roy, then owned by Guy Lafleur. They gave it a new recreational and tourist vocation. In 1999, Réal became the sole owner and turned it into a festive venue that now welcomes more than 35,000 visitors each year.
Always looking to the future, Autocar Excellence continues to grow. The company expands its services to Montreal, the South Shore of Quebec City, the Quebec City region, Rivière-du-Loup, and New Brunswick. In 2003, it opens a place of business in Montreal and establishes its head office in Lévis, at 874 Archimède Street. The Tourcar Group also expanded with the acquisition of Autocar Hélie in Bécancour and transportation permits in the Lower St. Lawrence and Laval. This growth consolidated Autocar Excellence’s reputation as a leader in group transportation.
Réal Boissonneault is not only a visionary business leader, he is also a passionate leader who is deeply committed to his community. He was the youngest president ever of the APAQ (Quebec Bus Owners Association) and is an active member of the boards of several key organizations, including Motorcoach Canada, the International Motorcoach Group (IMG), and Skål, while also participating in various golf tournaments and community initiatives.
His contribution to the industry was officially recognized in 2016 when the International Motorcoach Group (IMG) awarded him the prestigious “Operator of the Year” trophy. This award recognized his company’s operational excellence, customer-focused practices, rigorous safety standards, and commitment to the local community and the industry itself. As Réal pointed out on this occasion, “the greatest honor is to be recognized by your peers,” noting that this distinction reflects above all the collective work and expertise of the entire Autocar Excellence team.
The story of Alta Voyages dates back to 1986, with the launch of Tournées Club Sélect, which quickly won travelers over with its expertise and personalized service. In 2021, a new milestone was reached with the merger of Voyages Tour Étudiant, Voyages Club Sélect, and Séjours Linguistiques VTE, creating Alta Voyages. This union brought together the strengths of these agencies under a single strong brand, capable of offering travel experiences to both students and adults, in Quebec and internationally.
